Civilian objectives in order
- Explore nearby points of interest and identify resident NPCs, phones, loot, hiding places, and possible exits.
- Warn residents and use successful conversations to gain cooperation, police calls, or hiding instructions.
- Search containers for weapons, distractions, and key items tied to the match's available escapes.
- Group the residents and teammates needed for the chosen route without advertising the plan too early.
- Start the escape only when the team can handle the noise that reveals its exact location to Michael.
Residents, phones, and police
Residents are part of the objective network, not background decoration. Finding and persuading them can enable additional police calls, send them toward secure hiding places, or recruit company while moving through Haddonfield.
Phones are therefore high-value information points, but publicly using one may also constrain your path. Until noise ranges and interaction times are known, communicate before beginning a long action in an exposed room.
Loot, keys, and randomized escapes
Lootable containers can hold weapons, distractions, and key items. Both item and escape locations change from match to match, so memorizing one preview route will not solve the game. The team must share what it finds and abandon an unavailable plan quickly.
A useful information rhythm is to name the item, the building, and the nearby route—not just say that something was found. That reduces repeated searches and makes it easier to choose between multiple possible exits.
Noise and hiding decisions
Starting an escape makes enough noise to alert Michael to the exact location. Treat activation as the beginning of a defense phase rather than the end of a fetch quest. Lights and line of sight can also restrict Shape Jump, giving Civilians a reason to preserve illumination around a route.
Hiding places and distractions exist to manage information. Their exact sound levels and detection rules remain unknown, so use this principle rather than an invented tier list: create ambiguity before committing the whole team to one noisy objective.
What to do after death
A dead Civilian can continue supporting the team and may return as a Sheriff's Deputy or Dr. Loomis. Those roles join survivors and responding officers in the attempt to resist and eventually detain Michael.
No public source yet explains whether the return is automatic, selected, timed, or limited. Do not intentionally trade a life for a role until the release build shows exactly how the system works.
